java won't install in ff 3.6

I'm finding ff 3.6 will not allow java to install
I get this

this installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it,or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installer

or a msg saying ff will remove plugin

videos at cnet of course will not run needs flash 10 i install flash but keep getting this msg

it's a win 7 hp pc quick java shows a red j but on for j script a manual install doesn't work either. my research says you need a update and says to updata java before ff however did not know this

j script already enabled in both ff & ie8 but not java however the quickjava plugin says j is red meaning java not enabled. For some reason ff does not allow java

I just downloaded this Java 6 Update10 (6u10) after hitting install i get this
even though sun site says you need this for java to run in ff 3.6

Sorry for the typo above (build vs. built.)

When we discuss Java, JavaScript we have to be very careful. You wrote "for j script a manual install doesn't work either" which is why I had to note that there is no install for that.

Since this is just a problem on your machine you have to sort out why that is. I would comment more but the clues are not in your posts and then we have that comment "for j script a manual install doesn't work either."

Try this. Create a new admin capable user on this Windows 7 box. In that new user turn off any protection that could thwart Java installation and install Java from java.com

Be sure you are reading google findings on the error message.

I don't duplicate those answers but look for the other issues. My thoughts are about "What's different from a stock install?" which has always paid off for me.

Given the clues in your posts I can't suggest anything beyond what others are writing.

If nothing else, you learned that javascript is not the same as java.

My bets are on some registry cleaner or malware use but this discussion has not written much about that.

And it's well known that there is no issue on a clean installed Windows 7, unless there is some registry cleaning or installing some overdone "protection" software.

-> I write and maintain some Java SDK install kit which is why I know a little about this area. But that does not mean I know everything. Keep telling more and maybe you'll write something that someone will tell you exactly what to do.

I'm very close to giving up and forgoing ability to watch some video thanks for helping me learn what the error means. I am left with perhaps pying for help but won't. maybe ff 4 will put back java support

Why not try SeaMonkey? I use that and have no such issues. There must be some other browsers to try too.
