HP 6616 XP drivers

Hi,
I got a HP Pavillion 6616eg? from a friend and wanted to install Win XP because I hate Vista. So I formatted the HD and installed XP. But now I can?t find any tec specs for 6616eg and I need the correct drivers especially for chipset, audio and network. But I don?t know which drivers are the right ones. I tried many different drivers other user suggested for "simillar" Pavillions but they are not working sad I also tried to update/reinstall drivers by searching the internet automatically, but nothing..
Please help, I now spent 4 days setting um windows many different times, tried different drivers, upgraded to SP 3 and not, no chance to install audio/network.
Is it possible that if i installed the wrong drivers for the motherboard that the other components don?t work?
I think I`m going crazy right now and I don?t like HP any more wink
HELP PLEASE

You hate Vista, and you don't like HP. What an unpleasant lot of negative feelings.

I'd say you have these options:
1. Back to Vista via the recovery media (or partition)
2. Call HP customer service to ask if they have XP drivers for this laptop (and, if so, where, could be on some ftp-site where you don't find it yourself).
3. Back to Vista first, than forward to Windows 7. Or do you hate Windows 7 also?
4. Install Linux in stead of IE and see if that finds drivers for all hardware.

Your choice here.

Hi Kees,

ad 1) How can I recover my old system via recovery partition? At the HP service line they told me after formatting it is not possible.. Is it? I?d love to do this, it would be the quickest possibility to get the laptop running again.
ad 2) I did. They can?t help me because they don?t care. They don?t have any tec specs exept the ones I can get from their page, and they don?t really help and the driver section - I don?t know to cry our to lough..
ad 3) I don?t know if Windows 7 will work better than Vista. The laptop is really old so I thought XP would be perfect...
ad 4) I have no clue what you mean. Install Linux instead of Internet Explorer? Cause I tried it with Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer always crashed...

ad HP) They primary make their money with costumer services (20 for a helping tool for my smartphone instead of paying the service line costs??? a service line where I can choose help for many products but not for mine, but they tell me it?s the correct number???) and ink cartidges, not with good products, that?s the feeling I have about this company.

I?m no newbie but I?m also no pro in computers so you maybe will find some questions stupid or something like that (especcially ad4) but PLEASE HELP happy

I also apollogize for my bad English. I hope everything is understandable happy

Sorry, I don't have an HP laptop, nor the user manual of yours. It's not uncommon that the recovery partition is bootable from the BIOS if you press the right function key at the right moment. But it could also be that HP only made it accessible via the c:-drive.

Linux is an OS that you can install from CD or DVD, after downloading the image and burning it to a disk. Sorry for my mistake: I should have said: install Linux in stead of Windows.

Thank you for your tips, I?ll try accessing the recovery partition via BIOS.

ad Linux: Are the drivers for Linux and Win XP the same or compartible? Or do you suggest me to install Linux just for getting the laptop working? Because I don?t know if the friend of mine wants to have the Linux OS... But in generall I can use the internet, listen to music and do office stuff with Linux also, can?t I?

Somehow, Linux is easier with hardware then Windows. So it's worth a try. And, yes, Firefox and Open Office and VLC Player run on Linux also.

We may be in luck as this is VERY SIMILAR to the HP dv6636nr.

READ http://forums.cnet.com/7726-7587_102-2699006.html and try that install method.
