System Generic build (old parts) trying to build a carputer...
Hoping to run XP Pro
Recently purchased a CF-VDL01 - and I'm sure you can guess that's where the problems start
Found your wonderful site and have been diligently reading through closed threads and read the FAQs and links therein.
This one in particular:
Drivers for CF-vdl01
Currently the monitor is set up as my only screen (since that is how it will be in the car).
I've installed both versions of drivers on the post (mentioned above).
In Device Manager I see 4 Default Monitors listed.
Currently trying with a Serial cable (borrowed from work - ) with an extension Cable (also borrowed...) and I'm hoping both of them are straight-through cables.
The second set of drivers is newer than the first and after uninstalling the first it did a detection test and rebooted.
I now have UPDD under "Mice and other Pointing devices"
Adjust settings > Status tab - Init state Timed Out Pool usage, Now/HWM 21kb/49kb... (if that says anything to anyone)
oh a bit more about me - I am a computer guy but... the only serial experience i have is connecting to routers etc... not mice or touchscreens.

30 minutes later
uninstalled UPDD (will reinstall after i get a decent serial cable)
found out that one of them is an APC uplink cable ... no clue what the pinout on that is... so took that one off
Tried it with the other one that looks like a plain serial cable and still no joy.
Ok one last try with the UPDD software and the regular cable... then i officially am out of trouble shooting steps (other than reloading OS - which i'd rather not do)

Reseted and rebooted
reinstalled UPDD (fyi version for vdl02 though i have vdl01 - if that matters)
detection ..................... unable to detect
Reboot
Device still in timeout status ... (see above)
OK i give - any suggestions (ps tomorrow i'm going to get a serial cable from the store)

Look at Monoprice.com -- All kinds of serial cables in various lengths, well made and cheap too.

ugh - got home tested the cable i just bought and it's a null modem (doesn't say that on the bloody box does it...) so it's going back
sigh but to have a radio shack or something like that in germany... (or to be able to get something from an american online store quickly...)
so i'm ordering one from the uk
i hope the pinout is straight through...
anyone have an idea what the pinout actually is?
1-1 2-2 3-3 4-4 5-5 6-6 7-7 8-8 9-9 ??

oh ... another thing... does anyone know if the Function buttons on the screen will work if i use a ps2 cable directly from screen to keyboard port?
Pinout on that would be great as well if anyone has it...

The port on the bottom of the diisplay is not "PS/2"; but a dedicated Function Key Port.
ps: Check your e-mail for the Display Operating Manual.

what i'm seeing is a two page almost brochure looking thing for the whole setup and all i see it saying is that it needs a serial cable (serial cable is a generic term that can refer to about 6 different versions of cable...sigh)
please let me know if i got that wrong or am missing something (am known to...)

hmmmm... manual is kind of short.
sadly it does not say what kind of serial cable either
but it did say two devices needed to be set up in UPDD (nm that is for the m34 - i'm guessing it has a touchscreen on it as well.)
did you guy's use a setup like this in SP Cars?
