Looking to Build my own Notebook

Hey all,



So I have looked around the web forever for a notebook that would meet my needs.



I am really wanting a 5850/70 (DDR5) ATi card, on a notebook that is priced under $1250. But I am just not able to find it anywhere. The ASUS G53 is as close as I could get, but that has a 460m in it. So basically I just winded up deciding that it was time for me to try building my own custom laptop.



I'm not worried about being careful or imprecise, as I am in general a very careful person when handling computers and expensive equipment. My real problem is that I am not sure what exactly I want to buy.



I know I want 8GB RAM, a 5850/70, and a i7 processor (Or a i5 second generation), but the other stuff really isn't too important to me. Hard drives are easy to put in, so I can do that myself too. But things like a wifi card, with bluetooth and the like, a optical bay drive and all of the other numerous computer parts, I have never handled.



Is there anyone out there who is willing to help me try and build my very own first ever custom laptop?

Laptops are not like desktops. You can't just buy whatever you want and throw it into a chassis. You're probably best off buying a Clevo/Sager and customizing that, but you're looking for a very powerful GPU and CPU as well as 8 GB of RAM all for under $1250, which is going to be near impossible to fine.

I'd recommend getting a refurbished Alienware M15x / M17x r2 from the Dell outlet or an used one from the forum marketplace, or from wherever and upgrade it yourself with parts from the same sources.



Building a notebook yourself is almost an impossible task and you will definitely ending up spending more than when you buy one.



Clevo/Sager is an option as well.

If hes going to do that, why not just get a micro atx setup. Its more customizable, cheaper, and will work a lot better.

Why not a mini-ITX ???



But seriously, I've been weaned off the mini-ITX, I think it could be done, but I'd have blown an extra $100-200 on the motherboard and case, and wouldn't have had any room to throw in a sound card.



What case did you use for your HTPC? That's a pretty powerful rig for one of those slim HTPC cases.
